The canyon overlook is one of the more forgotten trails in Zion National Park.  To get to the trailhead drive towards the east park enterance and through the long tunnel.  Right after you exit the tunnel, there is a small parking lot on the south side of the road.  If it is full, there is another lot on the north side of the road 100 yards up the road.

The trail starts off as a bunch of stairs on the north side of the road fairly close to the ranger hut.  These steps are the steepest part of the trail.  Once up the stairs, the trail has a few ups and downs, but is fairly level.  The trail isn't paved like many others in the park.  There are a few places where the trail is right on the edge of the cliffs, but usually there is a railing to hold onto. The overlook is right on the edge of a cliff looking out over the lower half of Zion canyon.
